Follow up

KSL did a follow up story on Jason and the woman he saved ( Jackie) Here it is....

Woman meets rescuer who saved her from her burning car

Jason Day could have just kept going on Interstate-215 Tuesday. He'd just got off work from the FireHouse car wash in Sandy. But when he saw a car on fire near 4700 South, and a woman inside, he said he had to stop and help her.

Thursday, that woman came to the car wash to say thank you. She said she had no idea her what was going on when her car burst into flames. "I didn't know it was actually on fire," Jackie Butler said.

Cell phone picture of Butler's car on fire While she was driving home, smoke started coming up out of her car's hood. Butler pulled over and stayed in the car because she didn't want to get out and possibly get hit by passing cars. Because of the way the wind was blowing, she never saw flames.

"From the front end, all I saw was just, like, a hot engine smoking," Butler said.

But Day saw flames and took a picture with his cell phone. He and others ran to Butler, helped her out and got her away.

"It is neat to meet her and know everything's well, that she's OK," Day said.

Now the car wash where Day works, which coincidentally is the FireHouse, wants to help Butler, a single mother, get a new car.

"My heart goes out to those who are in a bad way or have misfortune, and she had her share of misfortune this week. I'd be happy to help," said car wash owner Dow Jones.

For Butler, she can't believe it. At a time in her life when so much went bad, she found how good complete strangers can be. "I really do appreciate it," she said.

Jones says he will donate some of his proceeds from March 17 toward helping Butler purchase a new car.

We are trying to get the word out about it because they didnt give much info away. so here is what I've been posting...

Jackie is indeed out of a car and with a five year old it’s going to be a bit difficult to get around. So Firehouse Car Wash and Detail is having a fund raiser to help her in getting a new car. Donations can be made at any of the 3 Firehouse locations.

North Salt Lake (This is actually the location Jason manages. He is the General Manager there.)
801-296-1900
989 North Highway 89

Sandy
801-501-7777
9534 South Highland Drive (2000 E)

American Fork
801-756-9699
83 North West State Road

The website www.firehouseclean.com has directions.

On St. Patricks Day they are having a “For Jackie” Day and there will be incentives for those who donate.

It was so nice to meet Jackie and offer her some help. In a time where things are so sad in the world it’s great to hear that others want to help her.

Our Very Own Hero

Last night Jason Day, The General Manager of our Bountiful location saved a woman from her burning car. He's taken this Firehouse thing to heart. The woman didn't even know her car was on fire and on the Freeway it was potentially VERY dangerous. We're so proud of Jason. Click on the link at the top right to see the video. Here is the story...

‘FireHouse' employee saves woman from burning car

WEST VALLEY CITY -- It may have been a lot worse for a driver whose car burst into flames on a freeway Tuesday afternoon if not for a man who decided to stop and help the woman.

Jason Day says when he saw the car burning, he had to do something. "That car is really on fire, and there's somebody in it. We need to get her out of there," he thought to himself.

Jason Day
Day, who works at a car wash, says he had just got off work Tuesday and was heading home on Interstate 215 near 4700 South on the west side when he saw an accident, then flames.

"I've seen those shows where cars explode," Day said, but he also knew he couldn't just leave.

"It would've been easier, yes," Day said. "But at the same time, there was a woman in the car, and you just can't leave somebody in a car that's on fire."

It just so happens the name of the business where Day works is the FireHouse. Day still had his work shirt on, which has a logo that looks like one from a fire department.

Day says people at the accident scene thought he was a fireman. "‘You're a fireman?' [they asked.] No, I just work at a car wash," he said.

Even still, he knew enough to help the woman out of the burning car and get as far away as possible.

Day's boss was smiling when he found out. "It makes me so happy and so proud of Jason, that he would stop and help someone who needed a hand," said Dow Jones, owner of FireHouse Car Wash & Detail.

The woman is OK; Day is just happy he was there to help. "Hopefully that karma will come around to help me out some day," he chuckled.

We have not been able to contact the woman yet, and neither has Day. He says he would like to talk to her and see how she's doing.
